The Wesley Research Institute Tissue Bank commenced operations in March 2007 on Level B3, Moorlands Wing of The Wesley Hospital. The facility is storing, suppling and managing ethically consented tissues (predominantly cancer), as well as corresponding blood samples and clinical data. The Tissue Bank is a resource that will be available to all researchers throughout Queensland.
We seek your help in identifying patients about to undergo surgery or biopsy for removal of a tumour. Please consider informing suitable adult patients about donating their leftover tissue to research and passing on the ‘Patient Contact Release Form’ for them to read and sign. This will allow Tissue Bank staff to contact the patient directly to talk them through the process and gain consent. Presently we are aiming to collect all cancer types for our general collection.
Your participation in tissue banking can make a real difference to the lives of cancer sufferers across Australia and abroad. To register your interest in tissue banking or to find out more information please call 07 3232 6375 and ask to speak to the Tissue Bank Manager.
