Tissue Bank

Information for researchers

The Wesley Research Institute Tissue Bank is the first purpose-built Research Tissue Bank in Queensland and will provide a diversified collection of ethically consented cancer tissue. Queensland is well placed as a source of cancer tissue due to its diverse population, large number of aged retirees, and high-rate of some cancers, particularly melanoma.

Researchers who are part of an ethically and scientifically valid research project will be able to apply to the Tissue Bank for these samples for their own research.

By utilising the Tissue Bank, researchers will be able to save valuable time and funds that can then be applied to further other aspects of their research.

The facility is currently in the process of gathering its collection. Once this initial process is completed, a full range of clinically annotated cancer tissue and matching blood samples for use in medical research projects will be available to help unravel the cause, progression and potential treatment for cancer and other diseases.
