Impact of glucose meter upload service on patient diabetes management
Clinical problem
Type 2 Diabetes affects more than 1 million Australians who are at an increased risk of developing serious health problems, including heart disease, stroke, gangrene of the lower legs/feet (often requiring amputation), kidney disease and blindness. A major problem in the management of this disease is understanding at what times in the day blood glucose levels are not within healthy limits, what the particular cause of the unhealthy level may be, and how it may be corrected by lifestyle changes. The study
The project will provide participants with education and advice about the control of their blood glucose levels based on individual glucose meter uploads during the day. The study will then determine whether this advice had a positive impact on participants' glycaemic control.Ultimate aim
This study has the potential to benefit Type 2 Diabetes sufferers by enabling them to better understand and manage their own blood glucose levels, thus helping to prevent long-term health problems.
